Vintage Castillo Mexican folk art candleholder with palm and flamingo

Vintage Castillo Mexican folk art candleholder with palm and flamingo

$72.00

Vintage 1970s Alfonso Castillo painted ceramic candleholder with a palm tree and flamingo. The base is painted blue, orange and lime green.

Alfonso Castillo was a master potter in Izúcar de Matamoros, Puebla, Mexico known for his tree of life sculptures and animal candleholders. All of his pieces were painted brightly after firing and the base design of scrolls and hatch marks are always seen on the base of his candleholders.

He exhibited widely and his pieces are highly collectible.

This piece has some areas where the painting has flaked off—see photo of the close-up of the flamingo. Also, there is a spot missing paint on the base. Some old candle wax remains.
