1980s Dolores Porras ceramic pot, signed

1980s Dolores Porras ceramic pot, signed

$190.00

A beautiful vintage signed Dolores Porras clay pot with bas relief fish and textured lines. The colors are beautiful and there’s wonderful glaze contrast in the base color—it’s sometimes shiny but mostly matte. This pot is in great condition. No cracks. Made in the 1980s.

Dolores Porras was an innovative Zapotec potter in Santa Maria Atzompa, Oaxaca. She was the first potter in her area to use color in her work. Her imagery included fish, flowers, reptiles, swirls, mermaids, female heads and more—in bas relief. For over fifty years she created pottery while also raising nine children.

Interest in Dolores Porras pottery is worldwide. Currently, there is an exhibition of her work at National Museum of Popular Cultures (MNCP) in Coyoacán, Mexico City.

Purchased at an estate sale in Oaxaca de Juarez.

Signed on the bottom.
