Maximino Santiago is the creator of this wonderfully carved and painted small leopard. Made in his workshop in La Union, Oaxaca, Maximino is a decades long carver of notoriety in his rural village and the United States.

Maximino, the patriarch of his family, is the master carver. He’s always sitting on a wooden stool working when you visit—usually with a machete in hand. His wife and children paint the wood carvings. He and his family are a favorite to visit in La Union.

Purchased directly from Maximino in October 2026.
