Maximino Santiago is the creator of this wonderfully carved and painted small yellow cat. Note the cat getting ready to pounce.

Made in his workshop in La Union, Oaxaca, Maximino is a decades long carver of notoriety in his rural village and the United States.

Maximino, the patriarch of his family, is the master carver. He’s always sitting on a wooden stool working when you visit—usually with a machete in hand. His wife and children paint the wood carvings. He and his family are a favorite to visit in La Union.

Purchased directly from Maximino in October 2026.
