Heart shaped deep ceramic bowl

Heart shaped deep ceramic bowl

$48.00

Made by sister potters, Lily and Lourdes in Oaxaca, is this large, burnished red clay heart bowl. It’s a deep bowl making it perfect for salads and vegetable dishes.

San Marcos Tlapazola, Oaxaca is a small village of red clay (barro rojo) women potters. For years the women only made utilitarian pieces but in recent years, they have started to experiment with different forms. The women dig the clay from their surrounding land. With the help of a rough wheel of stone, they form the pot and burnish it with pieces of shell and stone. Then they gather the firewood, cornstalks and carrizo roots to pit-fire the pieces. Recently, the government of Oaxaca has been helping potters build kilns to reduce the use of trees and exposure to smoke.

Un-glazed and lead free.
