Margarito Melchor carved wooden cat in purple. Margarito is one of the first artists to start carving in San Martin Tilcajete, Oaxaca which is now home to many alebrije workshops.

We love his cats—the head turning, the cat pouncing, and more. And his patterned painting lines are so unique to him.

We’ve visited him many times at his family home workshop where his son and grandson continue to carve.
