Mermaids or sirens are popular in Mexico. This clay mermaid was made in San Bartolo de Coyotepec, Oaxaca—a village known for it’s black pottery aka barro negro.

She is burnished and shiny all over except for the top body, face, and hair. A contrast between the matte and shiny.
