Hand dyed and handwoven wool textiles from Oaxaca
Hand dyed and handwoven wool textiles from Oaxaca
$180.00
From Oaxaca, heirloom textiles dyed with plants and cochineal and then handwoven.
Master artisan weaver Arturo creates his dyes from natural materials such as pericón (marigold), indigo, and cochineal. He dip dyes the sheep wool so that when the yarn is woven on his pedal loom, a sort of random ikat look is achieved. The two long ends are finished with a hand tied fringe.
These textiles are long and multi-use. They can be used as a bed runner, a large shawl, thrown over the back of your sofa or as a lap warmer.
Available from left to right on first image: cochineal, cochineal and pericón, and indigo.
Size: 78" plus fringe x 34"
Care: Handwash in cold water with a mild soap and hang to dry OR dry clean.
Arturo has made many pieces for Modela. He has won awards in Mexico but also in the US. His range of talent about natural dyeing, weaving—both on the pedal loom and the backstrap loom—is immense. He has also exhibited at the International Folk Art Museum in Santa Fe.
