We met Manuel Baumen over a decade ago at a vintage mercado in Mexico City and fell in love with his work. This fall we visited Manuel again.

Manuel paints his images on the reverse side of glass, adding sequins, and sometimes a photograph of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

Baumann’s subject matter is Mexican popular cultural—most often lucha libre wrestlers or Frida Kahlo. The frames are found and often a little beat up.
