Maximino Santiago created this wonderfully carved and painted large wooden dog in his workshop in La Union, Oaxaca. The dog has a carved bone in his mouth. The background is un-painted wood with black paint added for the spots.

Maximino, the patriarch of his family, is the master carver. He’s always sitting on a wooden stool working when you visit—usually with a machete in hand. His wife and children paint the wood carvings. A favorite family to visit in La Union.

Purchased directly from Maximino in October 2026.
