Mexico has a long tradition of making pottery banks in the shapes of animals. This folk art turtle was handmade by a Mexican artisan on the coast of Oaxaca. After firing, the decorative white slip was painted in a graphic stripe style.

Traditionally, there is no way to get the money out except for shaking or breaking—and this bank is the same.
