Clay pig molcajete
Red clay molcajete in the shape of a pig. The inside is scored to crush garlic, chile peppers, tomatoes, etc to make the finest mexican food.
The women of San Marcos Tlapazola in southern Mexico use clay from their surrounding fields to make their utilitarian, simple vessels. The vessels are made on a crude wheel with pieces of coconut shell or dried gourd to shape the clay and burnish. Finally, the clay is wood-fired.
Safe for food. Unglazed.
